Volunteer Needs
Volunteers play a vital role in the success of the Westside Summer Fest and are needed for set-up, tear-down, and activities during the festival. If you are interested in becoming involved in the planning of or volunteering for the 4th Annual Westside Summer Fest, please contact:
Stephanie Campbell at 517-999-2894 or stephaniec@nwlansing.or
Below you will find a list of tasks that we recruited volunteers to carry out during the 2009 Westside Summer Fest.
In addition to the “day of” we also need volunteer help with:
Day of:
1. Morning Set Up
Need 20-25 people at these times to help with set up. This includes arranging tables according to the site layout, distributing “festival parking” signs, hanging up balloons/ decorations, and tagging vendor tables.
(We will also need a few people at the later time slot to direct vendors as they arrive--- make sure they are coming into the festival from SUMMERVILLE and that they also park on SUMMERVILLE.)
2. Bike Rodeo Set Up
Need 1-2 people to help mark the bicycle “obstacle course” using rope, chalk, cones, and flags.
3. Bike Rodeo
Need 1-2 people to time the races and award prizes for kids cycling through the course.
4. Bike Helmet Giveaway
Need 3-4 people who know how to fit helmets on kids, help them find the appropriate size, and distribute helmets.
5. Welcome Station on Princeton Street
Need three people for each of these time slots. This will be a tent with a couple of tables, information about the festival, water, first aid supplies, and other “greetings” to welcome guests to the event.
6. Greeter at the Chicago Street Entrance
Need 1-2 people at this entrance to give attendees the schedule, map, and survey.
7. Parking Directors
Need 4-5 people at each time slot who will help direct car traffic and tell people where parking is available, and keep cars OUT of the festival grounds.
8. Health & Wellness Expo Greeters
Need 2-3 people at each of these times to give the Health Expo volunteers their passports & explain to them how it works.
9. Face Painting
Need 1-2 people at each of these times to help with face painting. Training will be provided on a previous day!!!
10. Refilling Water Containers
Need 1 person throughout the day who can check on the water coolers and bottled water stationed throughout the event, refill ice, refill bottles.
11. Port-a-Potties
Need 1 person at each time slot who will check in on the restrooms to restock toilet paper, hand sanitizer, etc & do whatever “tidying” is possible. HAND SANITIZER will be provided and will be in abundance!!
